Apple has announced the HomePod mini 2, a new smart speaker featuring enhanced audio, five new color options, and support for its upcoming Siri AI experience.
Announced on October 13, 2026, the updated speaker is designed to deliver richer music playback, smarter voice interactions, and a more connected smart home experience. It also introduces new ways to enjoy music and build a home theater with compatible Apple devices.
Siri AI Brings Smarter Voice Control
- One of the biggest additions is support for Siri AI, which Apple says will arrive through a future software update.
- The upgraded assistant is designed to understand personal context, answer a wider range of questions, support more natural conversations, and make music discovery easier.
- When paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, Siri AI can help users find information across supported apps and complete tasks such as locating a song recommended in a message or adding ingredients to a shopping list.
- Siri AI will initially support English in selected countries and regions. Availability depends on compatible devices, software, and regional requirements.
Richer Sound With the S10 Chip
- HomePod mini 2 is powered by Apple's S10 chip and advanced computational audio technology.
- Apple says the speaker analyzes music in real time to optimize dynamic range, loudness, and acoustic performance.
- Users can enjoy 360-degree audio from a single speaker, create a stereo pair, or connect multiple speakers for a multiroom listening experience.
- When combined with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, four compatible HomePod mini 2 speakers can also deliver a surround sound setup, with audio levels and timing calibrated to the room.
Introducing Sound Glow
- Apple has introduced Sound Glow, a feature that transforms the top of the speaker into a visual display that reacts to music.
- The light effects respond to bass and treble, while colors inspired by album artwork create a visual experience that changes with the music. Users can also select relaxing soundscapes, such as rain, accompanied by custom animations.
- The feature adds a visual dimension to music playback while maintaining the compact design of the HomePod mini.
Five Colors to Match Your Space
- The new HomePod mini comes in five finishes: pink, green, blue, white, and midnight.
- Its compact size makes it suitable for desks, bedrooms, living rooms, and other spaces where users want smart home control and audio without a large speaker system.
- The speaker can also serve as a default audio output for compatible Mac computers, providing an alternative for music, movies, gaming, and video calls.
A More Connected Smart Home
- HomePod mini 2 continues to function as a smart home hub, allowing users to control compatible accessories using voice commands or the Apple Home app.
- Users can manage lights, thermostats, blinds, locks, and supported automations. Sound Recognition can also notify users when compatible smoke or carbon monoxide alarms are detected.
- With compatible smart doorbells and cameras, HomePod mini can provide additional home notifications and announce recognized visitors when supported features are enabled.
Price and Availability
- Apple announced a US starting price of $149 for HomePod mini 2. Pre-orders opened on October 13, 2026, with retail availability scheduled to begin on October 30.
- For Nigerian buyers, local pricing, availability, warranty coverage, and regional Siri AI support should be confirmed with the retailer before purchasing.
Final Thoughts
The HomePod mini 2 brings together improved audio processing, a refreshed design, smart home control, and the promise of a more capable Siri experience.
For people already using Apple devices, it could become a useful addition to their home entertainment setup. However, buyers interested in Siri AI should remember that the upgraded assistant will arrive in a future software update rather than being immediately available with every feature at launch.
