Apple's October Is Packed: iPhone Duo Pre-Orders and a Rumored Smart Home Launch.

Apple's September event gave us the iPhone 18 Pro, the first foldable iPhone and new wearables. Now October looks just as busy. The iPhone Duo goes up for pre-order on October 16, and a smart home launch is rumoured for October 13. Here is what's official and what's still just talk.

Last updated: October 6, 2026. We'll update this post once Apple makes its official announcement.

What's Official

iPhone Duo: Apple's First Foldable

This is the big one. Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, and it arrives this month.

Key dates:

  • Pre-orders: Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. PT (1 p.m. in Nigeria)
  • Release: Friday, October 23, in more than 70 countries
  • Second wave: Friday, October 30, in 28 more countries

Price: From $1,999 (US) for the 256GB model, or about $83 a month over 24 months. It also comes in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

What you get:

  • A 7.6-inch inner screen that opens up like a small tablet, and a 5.4-inch outer screen for one-handed use when it's closed
  • Apple's A20 Pro chip, the same one in the iPhone 18 Pro, with a vapor chamber to keep it cool
  • Two batteries, one in each half, for up to 24 hours of mixed use
  • A titanium body with an IP68 water and dust rating
  • A 48MP main camera with a 2x optical-quality zoom, plus a 48MP ultra wide
  • Camera tricks that use both screens, such as a preview on the outer display so your subject can check the framing
  • Split View, which for the first time lets you run two apps side by side on an iPhone
  • Two colors: star white and night sky
Accessory Price (US) Availability
Duo Case $79 October 16
Duo Folio with Kickstand $129 October 16

Three Things Buyers Should Know

  • It's eSIM only. There's no physical SIM tray anywhere in the world. Before you buy, make sure your carrier supports eSIM.
  • Supply may be tight. Apple hasn't confirmed this, but supply-chain reports say production of the foldable is difficult and early stock could be limited. Pre-ordering on day one is the safest bet. The launch dates have not changed.
  • Check availability in your country. Apple's list of launch countries doesn't name Nigeria. Check apple.com/ng or an authorised reseller before you plan around October 16.

The Rest of the September Lineup

Product Starting Price (US) Released
iPhone 18 Pro $1,199 Sept 18
iPhone 18 Pro Max $1,299 Sept 18
Apple Watch Series 12 $399 Sept 18
Apple Watch Ultra 4 $799 Sept 18
AirPods 5 $129 Sept 18
  • iPhone 18 Pro: a new variable-aperture main camera, the A20 Pro chip, and much longer battery life
  • Apple Watch: a new health sensor that checks heart rate more often, and up to 50 hours of battery on the Ultra 4
  • AirPods 5: open-ear design with noise cancellation for the first time at this price

Prices for the Watch and AirPods come from launch coverage, so confirm them on Apple's site before you buy.

Also This Month: Mac Studio 512GB

Apple says a Mac Studio with the M5 Ultra chip and 512GB of memory arrives in "late October." The price hasn't been announced. The standard Mac Studio models start at $2,499 and are already available.

The Rumours (October 13)

Apple hasn't announced anything for October 13 yet. This all comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who says Apple is planning an event that day for three home products. Invitations are expected soon.

1. A Smart Home Hub with a Screen:
Think of a small display for your kitchen or desk. Reports say it will have:
  • A square screen of roughly 6 to 7 inches
  • Siri AI at the centre
  • A tabletop version with a speaker base and a wall-mounted version
  • A new operating system, possibly called homeOS

Reports disagree on the exact screen size and chip, so wait for the official specs.

2. HomePod mini 2: The first update since 2020. Expect a newer chip, better sound, Siri AI, Wi-Fi 7 and new colours, including pink and green.

3. New Apple TV 4K: Expect a faster chip, more memory for Apple's AI features, Wi-Fi 7 and a new remote. It's rumoured to look the same as the current model.

Price and Release Date

There is no reliable price for any of these. Apple raised prices on its home products in June, so the HomePod mini is now $129 and the Apple TV is $199 or $249. Whether the new products go on sale on October 13 or later is also unknown.

And Maybe More

Apple may also launch new Macs in the last week of October, possibly OLED MacBook Pro models, an M6 iMac and a base 14-inch MacBook Pro. An OLED iPad mini is also expected sometime this month.

Your October Calendar

  • Oct 12: iPhone Duo pre-order prep begins
  • Oct 13: Rumoured smart home launch
  • Oct 16: iPhone Duo pre-orders open (1 p.m. WAT)
  • Oct 23: iPhone Duo release day
  • Oct 30: iPhone Duo reaches 28 more countries
  • Late Oct: Mac Studio 512GB, and possibly new Macs.

The Bottom Line

If you want the iPhone Duo, set your reminder for October 16 and have your eSIM sorted. If you're waiting on Apple's smart home products, hold off on any buying decisions until October 13. We'll update this post with official details the moment Apple announces them.
