Kali Linux 2026.3 was released on 26 October 2026, bringing improvements to its build infrastructure, desktop experience, penetration testing tools, and Kali NetHunter platform.

The third release of the year focuses on making custom Kali image creation easier while delivering updates for security professionals, penetration testers, and Linux enthusiasts.

Refreshed Build Scripts

One of the major highlights is the refreshed build-script system. The scripts now follow a more consistent structure across platforms, with matching features, command-line arguments, and layouts.

Users can also build Kali images inside containers using Docker or Podman. The new build-in-container.sh script detects the available container engine and runs the build process inside a container, reducing the need to install build dependencies directly on the host system.

The improvements also include updated documentation for building Kali on Debian-based systems, making custom image creation more accessible.

KDE Plasma 6.7 and Desktop Improvements

Kali Linux 2026.3 introduces KDE Plasma 6.7, with improvements to workflow, performance, and power efficiency.

The update includes per-screen virtual desktops, improved workspace navigation, additional Wayland support, and refinements to System Monitor. Kali has also updated application icons to make tools easier to identify.

New Penetration Testing Tools

The release adds several tools to Kali's network repositories, including:

  • Dalfox: An automated cross-site scripting (XSS) scanning tool.
  • Katana: A web crawling and spidering framework.
  • Qsreplace: A utility for replacing URL query-string values.
  • Rustscan: A modern port scanner.
  • SDRangel: A software-defined radio application.
  • Snaffler-ng: A tool for identifying sensitive information and credentials across SMB networks.

The release also includes 126 package updates and upgrades the Linux kernel to version 7.1.5.

Kali NetHunter Enhancements

Kali NetHunter receives several updates, including improved compatibility with modern systemd and udev environments, additional device kernels, and new features.

Notable additions include wardriving support for the TicWatch Pro 3 series, experimental WearHunter functionality for controlling a NetHunter watch from a phone, NFC access to the Kali chroot, and KernelSU support.

How to Get Kali Linux 2026.3

New users can download the latest installation images from the official Kali Linux website.

Existing Kali installations can be updated using:

sudo apt update && sudo apt -y full-upgrade

Users should ensure their package sources point to the official kali-rolling repository before upgrading.

Kali Linux 2026.3 continues to improve the platform's build process, desktop environment, and security testing capabilities, giving users more flexibility when creating and deploying customized Kali environments.
